Diversity in the World of Work Conference: “Finding Balance, Achieving Empowerment”

What is it?
A day full of workshop presentations about diversity in the workplace, and the ability to find balance and achieve empowerment. There will be workshop presentations made by representatives from: Google, Memorial Sloan Kettering, NBC, City Year, Bloomberg Financial.. and more! You'll get chances to ask questions and network with members of all of the companies attending. Lunch will be accompanied by a presentation from your keynote speaker, Ms. Loretta Penn, the Former President of Spherion Staffing Services. There will additionally be a special performance by Grammy Award Winner, Thirza DeFoe, a performer from the Ojibwe and Oneida tribes of Wisconsin who is widely known for her sacred hoop dancing.

The following Student Clubs are supporting this event: Grito de Lares, ASILI, Academia Hispana, and the Commuter Student Association.

Upcoming Career Views & Info Sessions


What is a Career View?
A Career View is an event hosted by the Office of Career Services, in which we take a group of Fordham students on a “site visit” to a company to obtain “behind-the-scenes” information about how the company operates on a daily basis. Students are offered a firsthand introduction to the world of work and the culture of various companies and organizations. Career Views are a great opportunity for students to begin networking, and could possibly lead to internships, mentoring and part or full-time career opportunities! What is an Information Session?
An Information Session is an on-campus discussion and networking event hosted by a company looking to recruit Fordham students for internships or full and/or part-time jobs. A representative from the company will offer information about company culture, opportunities available to students, and often, they will answer questions from interested students. The format varies between info sessions, so please check out CareerLink for additional information about any info session you might be interested in!

1. Maia Yogurt is a Greek probiotic yogurt that is joining an extremely competitive market.  They are looking for innovative young professionals to join their team to work part time. Ideally, they would prefer marketing or entrepreneurial-minded students who would like to get involved on the ground floor of the next big American brand, and move up as the company grows.

All employees will start out at the grocery store level selling the product to customers, (product demo).  They believe that this is the best way to learn about the competition and more about the product.  Currently, the team at Maia Yogurt has openings for part time work on the weekends.  

Compensation: The demo team is provided with t-shirts, supplies for the demo, plus $10 an hour.  
Hours: The shifts run from 11am-3pm.

2. Mind-Body-Digest, a physician-psychologist team located on the Upper West Side (near Fordham’s Lincoln Center campus) is looking for a graduate student or advanced undergraduate psychology major, for part-time employment as a Research Assistant.

Hours: 4 to 6 hours per week, with a one-year commitment, preferably two
Compensation: $18 per hour

Responsibilities:
-Assist with mind-body research project

- Maintain technical knowledge related to our suite of hardware and software product lines and industry
-  Setup, configure, and test hardware and software components
-  Install software and hardware at client sites, run and connect all cables between and at hardware devices
- Provide telephone, remote, and on-site support for clients in order to provide quick resolution to problems
- Provide training to clients regarding software, hardware, and troubleshooting techniques

Required Skills/Experience:
-  Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks in office or at off-site client location
-  Advanced written and oral skills
-  Experience in configuration, installation, training and support of hardware or software products
-  Expertise in Microsoft Office and Windows products (Excel, Word, XP)
-  Valid Driver’s License

Hours:
-  PART-TIME POSITION
-  Monday through Friday 9:00am – 6:00pm, Shifts Available

5. Lucky Magazine is seeking student volunteers to participate in their 9th annual Lucky Shops, November 1st-3rd. This event is a perfect way for students interested in the fashion industry to network with an array of retailers and get first-hand experience working with a fashion magazine. Student volunteers also receive the opportunity to see the inner workings of a large fashion event and all of the strategizing and planning that goes into making it a success. Volunteers who participate also gain free access to the event (with time set aside for shopping) as well as the opportunity receive a VIP gift bag, if the student volunteers for all 3 days of the event. Volunteering for Lucky Shops is a great way to meet the right people and get involved with retailers and Lucky Magazine. Past volunteers have gained internships and made great contacts within the industry.
