Have you found a job you love doing?
This TED talk is a favorite of ours at the Office of Career Services. Scott Dinsmore was a career strategist who's life mission was to help people find what excites them and use that information to help them build a career. In his TED talk, Dinsmore outlines three simple practices for finding and doing work that you love. Additionally, he made his career tools available free to the public through his community at http://LiveYourLegend.net.
Everyone can take something away from this TED talk, from an undeclared freshman, to an alum who is considering a career change. Check it out!

On Campus Interviews Start TOMORROW!! Are you Prepared?
The easiest way to calm nerves before your big interview is to prepare, prepare, prepare! Here are a few things you can do to make sure you put your best foot forward:
(We modeled our list off of this one.)
(We modeled our list off of this one.)
- Be prepared to talk about yourself! If you've been to our Level 1 Workshop, you've already been introduced to the Elevator or 30-Second Pitch. Be prepared to give a 30 second introduction including your name, what you're studying, and a little bit about your background.
- Practice your answers! There are certain questions you can almost always expect to be asked in an interview. Make sure you know what you are going to say when you are asked these questions! Practicing your responses will help you eliminate all the "ums" and "likes." Remember, we are always here to conduct mock-interviews with you!
- Do your research! Use websites such as LinkedIn and Glassdoor to gain insight into the position you are applying for, as well as the company's mission, culture, and recent developments. Using this information to help you answer questions during the interview will allow you to give some of the best responses.
- Ask the right questions! The interview is also a time to gauge if the position would be a good fit for you. If you are offered the position, what questions would you need answered to help make your decision? Forming detailed and specific questions will demonstrate that you researched the company.
- Be positive! One of the last things an interviewer wants to hear is you badmouthing a former employer or company. Even if you had a terrible time at your last internship, never complain to an interviewer about it-- find a way to spin the challenges you faced into a positive learning experience.
- Be yourself! You already did the hard part in securing the interview. Now, all you have to do is impress them with your personality!
- Stay professional! Show up early, and turn your phone off. Just because On Campus Recruiting positions interview on campus, that doesn't change anything about the way you should interview. Wear business professional!
- Follow up! Always send a thank you note... and send it sooner rather than later. Make sure you get your interviewer's name and jot down notes on what you spoke about. Include something you spoke about in your thank you. That makes you stand out and helps the interviewer remember you.
