International Education Positions

This is the largest area of need for Peace Corps countries. Education Volunteers team-teach or directly teach English, health, literacy, math, and science. Education Volunteers strengthen local capacity by training and mentoring teachers in primary and secondary schools, teacher training colleges, and universities. Volunteers work with teachers to improve participatory teaching methodologies, inclusion practices, classroom management, authentic assessments, parental involvement, and gender equality in the classroom. International Environment and Agriculture Positions

Agriculture

Volunteers work with small-scale farmers and families to increase food security and production and adapt to climate change while promoting environmental conservation practices. They introduce farmers to techniques that prevent soil erosion, reduce the use of harmful pesticides, and replenish the soil. They work alongside farmers on integrated projects that often combine vegetable gardening, livestock management, agroforestry, and food security.

Environment

Volunteers become leaders in grassroots efforts to protect and conserve the environment, engaging in projects that establish forest conservation plans and help promote alternative energy practices, integrate environmental curricula in schools, and promote alternative energy practices. They also collaborate with various organizations to promote environmental awareness activities such as wastewater management, recycling, environmental youth clubs, and park management.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

City Year corps members are as diverse a group as the communities they serve. We’re looking for you if you want to give back and are ready to change the world.

Applicants must:

- Be between the ages of 17 and 24

- Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident

- Have a college degree or attended some college, have a high school diploma or GED, or be willing to earn a GED.

- Have served no more than three terms in an AmeriCorps state or national program.*

- Agree to a criminal background check

- Be able to begin City Year by July 30, 2012

Previous experiences with service, tutoring, mentoring or leadership strengthen candidacy.

 

* Individuals may receive no more than the value of two full time education awards.  If you have received the equivalent of more than one full time education award, you are eligible to serve and receive a discounted award.

RSHM Volunteer Opportunity!

Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary (RSHM) Volunteer Program

RSHM is currently accepting applications for one year domestic (U.S.) volunteers to serve with the RSHM working in diverse ministries, such as pastoral ministry, education, social work, or work in a law office.

About RSHM:
The Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary have dedicated their lives in service to others through their various ministries: education, pastoral ministries, retreat and spiritual direction, health care, social work, peace and justice advocacy, to promote life, especially in those situations where it is denied, devalued, or diminished.  

About the program:
One year volunteers will commit themselves to the Five Program Values: community, simple living, social justice, zeal, and spirituality.  The program is very similar to the Jesuit Volunteer Corp, asking volunteers to live in intentional community, focus on social justice, simple living and spirituality. They have extended their deadline and are still accepting applications for this September.
