City Year Deadline Fast Approaching!

Every 26 seconds a student in America drops out of high school, producing one million dropouts annually.  As a City Year corps member you can help lead the change in this crisis.  

City Year is currently hiring corps members to commit to one year of full time community service working on a diverse team of 17-24 year olds and serving as tutors, role models, and mentors.  Our upcoming application deadline is September 30^th and those who are selected for positions will begin in August 2013.  

Corps members work in elementary schools, middle schools and high schools in the areas with the greatest needs.  There are 23 sites across the country, including New York City, Providence Rhode Island, and Manchester New Hampshire.

At City Year, you have the best chance of being accepted if they apply early, so if you are looking into taking a gap year and giving back, this would be the perfect deadline for you to hit. The full list of application deadlines is as follows:

Tips for Applying:

- Be mindful when completing the online application.  This is our official application and we are looking for complete ideas and proper grammar.

- You will need two people to complete recommendations for you in order for your application to be completed.  Your recommenders should be people that can speak positively of your working ability, such as an employer or previous employer, a teacher, a coach, volunteer coordinator, etc.

- Timeliness!  If you are chosen for a phone screening interview, make sure that you schedule a time that will work best with your schedule and that you are on time for your interview. 

- If chosen for an interview, keep in mind that our corps members work directly with students and on teams.  Our strongest candidates are able to share with us experiences working with teams (could be a school team, sports team, work team, etc.), and experience in community service.
