American Civil Liberties Union Internship Opportunity

A Fordham Alum working for the American Civil Liberties Union is still looking to hire Speech, Privacy, and Technology Project (SPT) interns for the fall semester! The ACLU is offering great opportunities for anyone interested in privacy, surveillance, national security, law, and Edward Snowden.

The SPT is part of the ACLU’s Center for Democracy, and is dedicated to protecting and expanding the First Amendment freedoms of expression, association, and inquiry; expanding the right to privacy and increasing the control that individuals have over their personal information; and ensuring that civil liberties are enhanced rather than compromised by new advances in science and technology. The project is currently litigating cases and conducting other advocacy efforts on a variety of issues, including political protest, freedom of expression online, privacy of electronic information, journalists’ rights, scientific freedom, and openness in the courts.

Interns will gain valuable experience by working with the SPT team on a wide variety of issues to include:
  • Conducting factual and legal research on issues relating to free speech, privacy and technology.
  • Preparation, production and development of litigation and advocacy materials.
  • Drafting documents for the project’s Free Future blog.
  • Conducting research on Freedom of Information Act request projects.
  • Attending meetings to gain firsthand knowledge of active cases and advocacy projects
  • Litigation and advocacy projects.
  • Assisting with the maintenance of case files.
  • The option of proposing independent research projects relating to project issues.
  • Other projects as assigned.
