Penguin Random House LLC., the world’s largest trade
publisher, is seeking an intern to help support the day to day functions of the
Specialty Retail group within the Special Market Sales department. The intern
will support six sales representatives with daily selling responsibilities and
special projects. This is a great opportunity to get hands on experience
in the book publishing industry by speaking directly to buyers in the
marketplace, and learning about book sales.
Internship is unpaid and must be for College Credit
Fall Season (October –December 15th) / Spring ’14 Season (January
5th – April 15th)
3+ days per week
Daily Tasks:
- Developing sales materials and presentations for the
category specific accounts within:
Gourmet/Gift, Health/New Age/Fitness, Gardening, Museums,
Outdoor, Sports, Language & Travel, Business, Education, Pets, Religion,
Craft
- Researching new business leads on the internet, contacting
buyers & store managers
- Editing account databases
- Making phone calls to accounts and updating contact
information
- Attending & assisting in preparation for account calls
and trade shows
- Writing pitch letters and creating sell sheets for
upcoming titles
- Organizing and sending out mailings
- Attending internal sales meetings and potentially
attending local sales calls
Requirements:
- Knowledge of MS Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint
- Knowledge of SAP a plus (but not necessary)
- Detail oriented and a quick learner
- Excellent phone skills
- Friendly and outgoing personality
