How to Nail a Phone Interview: 10 Tips

1. Take the interview seriously.  Get up, and dress and groom as if they will see you in person.  I assure you this will change your demeanor and performance and work to your advantage. 

2. Sit at a table or desk with your materials in front of you. Or you can stand up.  Research shows that people project better and feel more confident when sitting up straight or standing. 

3. Make sure you are in a quiet place with a quality phone and good reception. You don't want the audio broken up so you have difficulty communicating and you want no distractions.

4. Have a copy of your resume and cover letter in front of you. 

5. Create a cheat sheet!  This the best part of phone interviews.  Create outlines for all of your STAR stories and have it in front of you. 

S - Situation

T - Task

A - Action

R - Results

6. Do not assume a phone interview is less formal than an in person interview.  It holds as much weight and you should act with the upmost professionalism. 

7. Speak clearly and enunciate so they can understand you clearly. 

8. Since you cannot read non-verbal cues in a phone interview, it is perfectly appropriate to ask, "Did I answer your question thoroughly?" or something of that nature. 

9. If you don't understand the question don't jump in and answer.  Ask them to repeat the question so you can make the best presentation. 

10. Don't be afraid to pause and think before you answer.  Pauses in any interview seem long to the interviewee but are short to the interviewer.  It's better to take a moment and collect your thoughts than speak without thinking.

Management Position Available!

CVS is looking to hire Fordham students for management positions ASAP!

Store Management staff drives store execution and performance while building consumer loyalty to CVS/pharmacy through a focus on excellent customer service. Successful managers maintain an engaged store team through demonstrating initiative and leading by example. Support for managers comes not only from their individual store teams, but also regional field management, call centers, distribution centers, and Customer Support Center headquarters.

Candidates will begin as a Store Management Trainee completing basic operations and management skills training and learning about key aspects of the business and CVS/pharmacy culture. In addition Store Management Trainees will receive the necessary training to take operational control of the store and manage staff as either an Assistant Store Manager or Store Manager. This phase lasts approximately 12 weeks. Upon successful completion, individuals will be eligible for promotion to an Assistant Store Manager position. Assistant Store Managers and Store Managers continue to participate in development and leadership training to prepare for potential field management or executive roles. Time in the position varies based on the individual. Most candidates will follow the above plan. Select candidates based on experience and market needs may be considered to begin at different points within the plan. All CVS/pharmacy training programs require certification testing as a requirement for successful completion.

Store Management is responsible for the total leadership and strategic operation of a CVS/pharmacy store including:

- Overall store management, supervision, and policy implementation

- Sales and inventory management

- Employee staffing, training, and development

- Financial management

- Customer service leadership

During the course of the sales training program, Account Coordinators learn how to manage the sales process and build long term client relationships by working closely with their team, while gaining a thorough understanding of the company, clients, and industry. 

Responsibilities Include:

- Assist and contribute to the development of client proposals, presentations, and client analysis through proficient knowledge of marketing and research tools

- Process ads and manage advertisers through the full sales process
