Foreign Policy Mentoring Fair: February 20th


The Women’s Foreign Policy Group would like to extend an invitation to Fordham students to attend their Annual NY Mentoring Fair on Wednesday, February 20th, from 6 to 9 p.m. The event will be pertinent to students interested in a career in international affairs.

2013 Women’s Foreign Policy Group Mentoring Fair registration is now open.

The program provides an opportunity to speak informally with senior-level international affairs experts about the skills required to break into the global job market and hear valuable advice and guidance regarding career planning and internships. The program is open to undergraduate and graduate students, as well as young professionals. Sectors include international development, NGOs, human rights, international law, international health, international business, diplomatic service, the UN, and communications.  

Space is limited and advance registration is required.

Theatre Internship Fair: March 16th


The Alliance of Resident Theatres/New York (A.R.T./New York), is thrilled to announce its annual Theatre Internship Fair!
The A.R.T./New York Internship Fair, in collaboration with the AmericanTheatre Wing, provides students with the opportunity to meet working theatre professionals from 50 New York City based not-for-profit theatre companies, all of which are seeking interns for the current, Summer, and Fall semesters! The Fair is open to undergrads, grads, and recent grads of all majors. The Fair is free, but participants must RSVP in order to attend.

When: Saturday, March 16, 2013
Time: 10:15am-1:30pm
Where: The Midtown Exhibition Center
                  560 Seventh Avenue, 2nd Floor
                  New York, NY 10018

To RSVP, submit the reservation form no later than 5pm on March 13, 2013. Students will also have the opportunity to upload a copy of their resume to the intern e-file, which is a year-round database searchable by A.R.T./New York member theatres looking to hire interns or part-time help.

Students are encouraged to bring copies of their resume. Business casual attire is suggested.

Webinar: Pathways to Federal Employment


Join the US Office of Personnel Management and the US Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy for an interactive webinar!  

The Pathways Programs offer clear paths to Federal internships for students, and careers for recent graduates. The Programs provide meaningful training and career development opportunities for individuals who are beginning a career in Federal service. This webinar session will highlight specific things students with disabilities can do when applying for Federal jobs. A Program Analyst (and former Federal intern with a disability) at the U.S. Office of Personnel Management will break down the steps to apply for Federal jobs (including Pathways positions) and provide you with an excellent foundation to consider a rewarding career in the Federal Government.

During this Session you will learn:
- The three pathways to Federal employment
- How to effectively navigate USAJOBS
- How students with disabilities may be eligible for a special hiring authority
- How to best highlight your education and experience when preparing a federal resume
- The steps in applying for Federal positions

The New York Botanical Garden, a National Historic Landmark and one of NYC’s premier cultural institutions, seeks is hiring an Education Greeter, and a Sales Associate.

1. Education Greeter

Responsibilities: The Education Greeter provides orientation and assistance to school groups at the School Group Entrance. Additionally, provides customer service, administrative support, and takes phone registrations. This is a part time position.
Key duties include:
- Greet and check in school groups.
- Provide orientation and assistance to school groups at the School Group Entrance.
- Provide customer service.
- Assist in phone and computerized registrations.
- Become conversant in activities and interests related to Visitors’ needs.

Requirements:
- Good customer service skills.
- Willingness and ability to work in a variety of weather conditions and to be outdoors.
- Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods.
- Able to lift program materials and signs up to 15 lbs.
- Fluency in English required; fluency in other languages a plus.
- Driver’s license required.
- Basic knowledge of computers.
- Knowledge of The New York Botanical Garden preferred.
- Must be available Tuesday - Friday from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

2. Part-Time Sales Associate

Responsibilities:
- Accurately ring up sales in the register.
- Assist customers and answer questions about shop merchandise and general Garden information.
- Stock displays in a neat and organized fashion.
- Perform daily cleaning tasks to maintain the booth’s appearance.
- Bring merchandise to the booth from the shop daily to keep it well-stocked.

Requirements:
- Previous retail experience preferred.
- Friendly and pleasant demeanor.
- Detail oriented.
- Willingness to work hard and be part of the team.
- Flexibility regarding duties, hours, and holidays.
- Must be available on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

Rate of pay: 10/hr.
